The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR), through the Directorate General of Minerals and Coal (DGMC), will hold the Minerba Convention and Exhibition (Minerba Convex) 2025 on 15–16 October 2025 at the Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC). The event is planned to be officially opened by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, and is expected to become an important momentum for strengthening synergy among the Government, business actors, academics, and the public in realizing a mining sector that serves the interests of the people.

Director General of Minerals and Coal, Tri Winarno, stated that one of the main focuses of Minerba Convex 2025 is sustainable mining management that not only emphasizes economic aspects but also prioritizes social responsibility and environmental conservation.

“Sustainable mining is not only about economic value added, but also about responsibility toward the environment. Therefore, Minerba Convex 2025 will feature special sessions such as coaching clinics for business actors, so they can better understand the importance of implementing environmentally friendly mining practices, including compliance with reclamation guarantee obligations (jaminan reklamasi/jamrek), which are currently widely discussed. This is part of our shared commitment to maintaining a balance between productivity and environmental sustainability,” said Tri in Jakarta on Monday (13/10).

Tri added that the development of advanced materials, which play an important role in supporting the growth of future high-technology-based industries, will also be one of the key topics discussed at Minerba Convex.

“These advanced materials are used for sophisticated industries, which is why they are called advanced materials. They include critical and strategic minerals. In Indonesia, exploration of strategic and critical minerals has begun, including rare earth elements. These efforts continue to be intensified because the available data are still limited and not as comprehensive as for other metallic minerals. Currently, data collection and exploration are still ongoing and are being carried out by the Geological Agency,” Tri explained.

Through the theme “Driving Sustainable Growth: Through Innovation and Collaboration,” Minerba Convex reflects the direction of mining industry development that emphasizes the importance of innovation and cross-sector collaboration, one of which is through downstreaming programs. Chairman of the Organizing Committee of Minerba Convex 2025, Resvani, stated that downstreaming programs implemented over the past few years have shown positive results. The increasing number of smelters is concrete evidence that the downstreaming policy is on the right track.

According to Resvani, the Government, through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the Ministry of Industry, and the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), continues to strengthen synergy so that downstreaming does not stop at the processing of raw materials, but continues through industrialization and the development of advanced materials that can be utilized to support the domestic defense and high-technology industries.

“Without raw materials from the minerals and coal sector, strategic industries such as defense cannot grow. Therefore, strengthening basic industries is a necessity,” Resvani emphasized.

The implementation of Minerba Convex 2025 is aligned with the Asta Cita of President Prabowo’s administration, including strengthening the national defense system through energy independence, increasing the availability of quality employment, strengthening the development of human resources and technology, and encouraging industrialization to increase domestic value added.

In addition to discussion forums, Minerba Convex 2025 will also present various educational activities for all age groups. These include a mining-themed coloring competition for kindergarten students, storytelling drawing competitions for elementary school students, social media content competitions for junior and senior high school students, and scientific poster competitions for university students. For the general public, a mining photography competition will be held, while for journalists, article and journalistic work competitions will be organized.

The entire series of events is expected to serve as a collaborative platform for the government, industry players, academics, investors, associations, and the wider public in driving the transformation of the mining sector toward a greener and more sustainable future. Through exhibitions and comprehensive discussion forums, Minerba Convex 2025 will become a hub for the exchange of information, innovation, technology, and investment opportunities in the national mining sector.

This year, Minerba Convex 2025 is being organized with the involvement of 11 mining associations, namely the Indonesian Mining Experts Association (PERHAPI), the Indonesian Coal Mining Association (APBI), the Indonesia Mining Association (IMA), the Indonesian Geologists Association (IAGI), the Indonesian Mining Services Association (ASPINDO), the Indonesian Nickel Miners Association (APNI), the Indonesian Heavy Equipment Experts Association (PERTAABI), the Indonesian Nickel Industry Forum (FINI), the Indonesian Tin Exporters Association (AETI), the Indonesian Society of Economic Geology (MGEI), and the Society of Renewable Energy (SRE).
